This series constitutes an in-depth look at all the warnings I've been giving you guys over the years.  Some of the information found within the articles is absolutely frightening.



This is one reason to remove (or disable) any third party app you may have on your Android.

You are not going to escape the surveillance state so long as you have a cell phone with you, but by having less third party apps (which are all selling your metadata), you can reduce the size of the information net being used.

For iPhone users, well, you may reduce your exposure to this privacy invasion by opting out of tracking via Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT), but Apple doesn't allow hardware manipulation (i.e. "disabling apps") like Android does.  Google also allows you to opt out of having an "advertising ID" on newer Android versions, but on older Android builds you'll need to make it a "Sunday habit" (or more often) to reset your Advertising ID.

Also "dumb phones" no longer exist.  All the low-end-hardware flip & stick phones (colloquially known as "feature phones") have smart OS' on them these days, and none of those can be manipulated like Android can, but they are tracking you just as intently as standard Android and iOS are.

From the "department of should-be obvious":  One of the first things you should do with any new cell phone is disable the GPS in the settings.  This will keep any app from accessing your precise location.
