More Deadly COVID-19 Strains Likely as China Lifts Travel Restrictions Amid Outbreak, Microbiologist WarnsChina will once again allow its citizens to travel abroad, starting on Jan. 8, amid its latest and potentially biggest COVID-19 outbreak. But that could result in significant health challenges and more pathogenic COVID-19 strains, Dr. Xiaoxu Sean Lin, a microbiologist and assistant professor in the Biomedical Science Department at Feitian College, stated in an interview that aired on Newsmakers by NTD and The Epoch Times on Dec. 28.
“I hope there’s no more pathogenic strains,” Lin stated. “But I think the likelihood right now is much higher than before.”
Specifically, Lin said that elevated levels of smoke and industrial pollution in China have resulted in poor immune systems among the Chinese population and a significant prevalence of respiratory diseases, such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD. This increases the chances of COVID-19 mutating into a more deadly strain in the Chinese population, he explained....
