Colorado voters will decide on a proposition on Nov. 8 that promises free breakfasts and lunches for all public-school children.
If disapproved, only those eligible based on family income can receive free meals.
Historically, Colorado voters have shown little desire to increase taxes. In 1992, they went so far as to establish the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights, which limits the revenue governments can retain and spend and requires voter approval for tax increases.
But in 2020, Colorado voters bucked past precedent and approved a paid family and medical leave proposition by popular vote.
Now, proponents of the universal free school meals proposition hope voters will again show a desire to "spread the wealth" and increase taxes on those making over $300,000....
