"Giá mai năm nay rẻ, nhiều nhà vườn chấp nhận bán tháo vì nếu không bán sẽ không có tiền tái đầu tư," ông Thanh nói.
Người trồng mai tại thị xã An Nhơn cho biết nghề này giống như "canh bạc." Thời tiết lạnh hay nắng nóng đều ảnh hưởng đến việc chăm sóc mai, khiến cây nở hoa đúng dịp Tết trở nên khó khăn. Ngoài ra, sự thay đổi thất thường của thương lái cũng khiến người trồng mai điêu đứng. Ông Ánh rơi vào cảnh thê thảm hơn khi gia đình ông thua lỗ hai năm liên tiếp. Vận chuyển mai từ đường lớn về lại vườn để chăm sóc chờ Tết năm sau, ông Ánh cười gượng: "Vườn mai của gia đình tôi có 1.000 chậu nhưng đến nay chỉ bán được 30 chậu vì mai cũng nở sớm. Năm ngoái, thời tiết nắng nóng từ tháng 11 âm lịch khiến mai nở sớm và không bán được chậu nào. Hai năm liên tiếp gia đình tôi thất thu, tiền phân thuốc còn nợ đại lý."
