Liberal Candidate Declares Victory in Mississauga–Lakeshore Federal Byelection

Liberal candidate Charles Sousa has been announced the preliminary winner in the federal byelection in Mississauga–Lakeshore by the media, the first time an open riding has been up for grabs since Pierre Poilievre took control of the federal Conservative Party.
With 84 percent of polls reporting at 12:35 a.m. ET Tuesday, Liberal candidate Charles Sousa had 51.4 percent of the vote. Conservative Ron Chhinzer was trailing at 36.6 percent. Voter turnout was roughly 19 percent.
Observers say the winner of the byelection could indicate the future success of a federal election, in a district that Conservatives last won when Stephen Harper was elected with a majority. The riding is considered a Liberal stronghold federally, while provincially it is held by the Progressive Conservatives....
