With Decisive Byelection Win, Danielle Smith Now Has a Seat in Alberta Legislature

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith was handed a decisive victory in the Brooks-Medicine Hat byelection on Nov. 8.
With results from 75 of the 76 polls announced on Tuesday evening, Smith won the seat with 55.5 percent of the vote, followed by NDP candidate Gwendoline Dirk who garnered 24.2 percent of the vote.
Alberta Party Leader and byelection candidate Barry Morishita came in third with 18 percent of the vote, while Independence Party of Alberta candidate Bob Blayone won 1.9 percent.
Wildrose Independence Party candidate Jeevan Mangat received 0.5 percent of the vote.
The race saw low voter turnout, with just over 10,400 ballots being cast of 34,060 eligible voters.
In a speech following the results, Smith said the people of Brooks-Medicine Hat made their choice, and promoted her party for the upcoming provincial election next year....
